The new COVID-19 variant omicron is expected to be significantly more resistant to all previous treatments and vaccines. As the world watches the new variant takes its spot as the dominant strain of COVID-19, experts try to determine if vitamin IV drips are still effective in preventing and reducing symptoms.

Vitamin deficiency in COVID-19

People with vitamin deficiencies are significantly more likely to be infected with COVID-19 and develop serious, even fatal complications.

Several studies have shown that people with low levels of vitamin D and C are more likely to test positive for the virus than those with typical levels.

For example, 80% of COVID-19 Patients in a Spanish hospital had vitamin D deficiency, according to a recent study. Men were more likely than women to have lower levels, and people with low levels also developed other inflammatory markers such as ferritin and D-Dimer.

Other research shows that hospitalized patients that experienced fatal COVID -19 complications – acute respiratory failure – had extremely high rates of vitamin C and D deficiencies.

What are IV Vitamin Drips

Intravenous drip therapy has been around since the early 1900’s but has only recently have gained popularity as a way to treat and prevent various conditions. They are a solution of vitamins that are delivered directly into the bloodstream through a vein, typically in the arm. More notably IV vitamin drips have proven to be a safe and effective way to treat viral illnesses like pneumonia and sepsis because of their ability to help restore essential vitamins back into the body.

A physician’s order is required to receive IV vitamin treatment. It is important to get IV vitamin drips only in a clinic or other medical setting.

IV Vitamin Drips and Omicron

The clinical data from Omicron trials will not be available for many months. So far, doctors and researchers cannot tell how effective IV vitamin drips are or how they might work.

Recent studies have revealed that patients with covid based pneumonia have low levels of vitamin C and elevated oxidative stress. Restoration of Vitamin C through intravenous means has proven to reduce the severity and duration of pneumonia and reduced patient ICU stay by an average of 8%.

This is believed to be because vitamin C can improve the resistance of white blood cells to viruses, has an antioxidant effect, and can induce interferon production. Paired with the relatively quick and effective delivery of these vitamins through IV, you can imagine why they’ve been used as a treatment for COVID-19.

There are several theories about how IV vitamin drips may help treat COVID-19 Variants:

  • Very high vitamin C levels may create free radicals that destroy viruses and bacteria. Our body’s cells have defenses against these free radicals, but viruses do not.
  • Another possibility is IV vitamin C renews the body’s antioxidant protection. Serious infections can use up our body’s vitamin C and other antioxidants very quickly.

To be clear: IV vitamin treatments are not a cure for COVID-19 or any of its variants.

Are IV vitamin drips safe?

IV infusions always require proper administration by a medical professional. Patients need to be screened to make sure it is safe for them. Some conditions might prevent a person from getting IV vitamin drips.

From research on vitamin C and cancer, we know that IV vitamin C is safe when medical guidelines are followe
